Trailers: Get a feel for Borderlands’ gameplay
The vertical split-screen’s a bit unorthodox, to say the least. And I’m not feeling too good about the whole, “it’s an RPG so cover and head-shots take a back seat to stats” thing. I’ve always found that sort of gameplay very annoying when I’m not too busy leveling up to notice.
I suppose this video looks a little bit better, but something in the shooting still seems off to me.
At least the artistic style is fantastic.
Weapon variety looks good too.
And lastly, the menus look pretty straight-forward and easy to use. So that’s a plus.
All and all, as excited as I am for this game, the more I see of it the more cautious I become. The premise is so genius, but in practice, I fear that Gearbox is letting RPG gameplay elements over-power the shooter elements. If the shooting boils down to running up to a guy’s face and mindlessly pulling the trigger, then I may as well be playing Fallout 3. I’d like to see the precise shooting of Gearbox’s Brothers in Arms games pair with the stat progression and looting of action-RPGs. But hey, the game doesn’t come out ’til October 20th, so there’s still time to balance and polish.
