Trailers: You knew this was coming

Looks like a 25 kill streak in Modern Warfare 2 will net you a nuke. There doesn’t seem to be much sense to using it though if it kills everybody on the map, friend and foe alike. Maybe Infinity Ward’s trying to make a statement about nuclear warfare?

Actually, on second viewing, it seems to me that the nuke results in an instant victory. Either that or the guy was playing to 26 kills. Regardless, I’d be interested to hear everybody’s thoughts on how the kill streak system should work. A lot of people feel that rewarding the best players with nukes and choppers and so on ruins the balance of the game. While that certainly sounds about right in theory, I never really experienced recurring problems with the system in MW1. Thoughts?

Video doesn’t seem to want to work for me so I’m going off of how you described it:

I thought the chopper was fine because it wasn’t really overpowered. If you got mowed down by that thing, you always sort of just had yourself to blame for not taking cover a little smarter when it was nearby. If it had actively hunted you down and tried to get an angle on you, I think my opinion might change, but I never found that to be the case. Airstikes were the same way really… So I’m with you, MW1 worked fine.

This on the other hand, I find odd. A 25 kill streak nets you an instant win? I gotta say, at first this struck me as a very very poor design choice given that a single good player / camper / sniper could win the game regardless of how the rest of his team was doing. Then I thought about it a little more, and a 25 kill streak is absurdly high. The odds that your team wouldn’t be winning by a landslide anyway if you’re pulling that off would be even smaller. I guess, to its credit, it could lead to better communication between teammates if somebody was getting close to that number, but meh.

Initial reaction is that it was a harmful addition. My thought now is that it’s sort of interesting but next to pointless, which is definitely preferable.

Haha, I just thought of something way better than a nuke–poison gas. Just imagine the screams of terror as you flood the other team’s spawn point with toxic mustard gas!
