Reactions: Dragon Age awakening March 16th
It’s official. Dragon Age: Origins will be receiving a full-blown expansion titled Dragon Age: Awakening come March 16th. And as the rumors indicated, it will retail for $40 (possibly $30 on the PC) and require Origins to play. The expansion will be available in both packaged and digital forms.
Awakening‘s all-new storyline deals with the rebuilding of the Grey Wardens after the events of Origins. It also delves deeper into the backstory of the Darkspawn and their new, Arch-Demonless goals. Players will have the option to import their original characters or start over as an all-new new Grey Warden from the land of sweet perfumes, Orlais. The plot takes place in the all-new realm of Amaranthine.
In terms of game-play, the add-on will raise the level cap and add new enemies, such as the Inferno Golem, Spectral Dragon, and a hyper-intelligent sub-race of Darkspawn. It will also add new spells, abilities, and five all-new, recruitable party members.
Personally, I’m very happy to see the stories started in Origins continuing so soon. Hopefully this expansion will help to tie up some of the loose ends still lingering after the events of the main game (like Morrigan, for instance).
But there’s too much happiness going around right now, so I need to throw a little disappointment into this post to balance things out. BioWare pulled the “Return to Ostagar” DLC at the last second last night without giving a reason for the delay. Guess you’ll just have to wait a bit longer to scavenge the battlefield for fallen comrades’ loot.
