Reactions: Mass Effect 2 to have free launch DLC

“Addressing rumors: BioWare will not be charging extra for any new Mass Effect 2 content on launch day. More DLC details next week.” So says the almighty BioWare Twitter. True, it is quite vague, but it certainly implies free launch DLC for the coming Sci-fi epic. Guess we’ll just have to wait a few days for the details to emerge.

After how badly they’ve screwed up Dragon Age’s DLC (I swear they have all their interns on that game while the rest of the company is hard at work on ME2) it would be a nice touch.
But speaking of ME2, I’ve been struggling with some of the ME1 decisions that I know are going to carry over… the Rachni queen? Should I believe her? Should I save that stupid council? I hate the asari but don’t mind the turian and the salarian. And who do I appoint after? I actually really like Udina because he’s an asshole and he’s pretty forceful, so I gotta say he’d be better at the job, but as a nearly exclusively paragon it seems odd to NOT choose Anderson just because he’s a nice guy.
What’s also really hard is the Kaidan / Ashley choice. Well, not the “choice” per se because a relationship with Liara is just disgusting so Ashley wins out over her in so many ways, but more the ramifications of the choice. I’m basically killing Carth if I kill Kaidan, and that feels like I’m doing a terrible injustice to a BioWare staple. Plus, he’s a pretty likeable, if comparitively dull, guy.
Hmm… I’m thinking it’s just too difficult to plan ahead for the potential consequences for these choices in not only ME2 but the planned ME3. I should just go with what I would “really” choose, which would be Release the Rachni Queen -> Sacrifice Kaidan -> Save the council -> Appoint Udina.
Oh, and maybe make another save file.

More details on the DLC. Free to those who buy the game new, charged for those with used copies. Sounds like some sort of in-game interface that’ll provide free missions at launch and likely charge for them in the future, or at least that’s how I interpret it. Pretty much a digital quest board. Liking the trend of integrating DLC into the game world.

And in news that surprises nobody, BioWare has confirmed that there will be more Mass Effect games after the trilogy is over. Yay!

More clarification on DLC. Sounds like this Cerberus Network thing will dish out the free stuff while the bigger stuff will probably be for-pay, non-Cerberus stuff.
