Random: Mass Effect 2 oddities
Lollers. Also, this story allows you to see the culminations of all the Mass Effect 2 romances. Most suck, a few are okay, and I never noticed a picture of Liara sitting on my desk. Not like I would have felt guilty anyways…she went sort of wacko in the second game.
And lastly, if you get the opportunity to perform a renegade action on the reporter who interviews you in the Citadel, do it. I don’t think a video game has ever made me laugh so hard. Hopefully that video footage doesn’t come back to haunt me in ME3!

I’d just like to say that I am genuinely shocked at the results of the weekly poll. I didn’t even clarify that “ass” can be part of “legs” and you dopes are voting like you lost your shins in ‘nam. But to each his own, I suppose.

In regards to ME2, Tali = win. I’m off Ashley for good. I will say though, as much as I hated her before, I actually liked the new Liara. I was sassing her a bit just to be a jerk and she slammed on her desk in rage.
David Approves +10
In regards to the poll, as much as I would have liked to go for the Seinfeld quote, I really AM a leg man.
Not an ASSMAN though. There’s my own reference.

By the way, I’m kind of curious about some of the choices you’ve made over the two games – namely, the larger ones, obviously. Rachni, council (/ who you appointed), Kaidan or Ashley? ME2 ending choice? What do you think about the genophage? Quarian / Geth conflict?

ME1 – I saved the Rachni (although I would have killed them had I truly been role playing…I don’t trust bugs). I appointed Anderson because that other guy was just a jackass. I saved Ashley in the hopes of talking her into a three-way with Liara…man, what a mistake! Lol. I hated seeing her in ME2, acting like such a bitch. And for some reason the game acted like my Shepard had feelings towards her…weird.
ME2 – Spoilers ahead! As for the ending choice, I ended up saving the collector ship so the humans could study it for the coming war, although the Illusive Man’s eyes make me think I might regret it. I also told him to go to hell when he told me that we needed each other. Eff that.
The genophage sounds bad at first but Moridin makes a very convincing population control argument. The galaxy probably is safer with the Krogan in check. But as for the actual choice, I just told Moridin to hold onto the data so we’d have it if we ever needed it.
When it comes to Quarian/Geth, I’m totally on the side of Quarians. Geth are machines that could never hope to integrate into our organic society, even if they claim to be peaceful. That said, I didn’t tell the Quarians to do anything. I figured they’d get beat up going to war, and I positively loathed that apologetic, backbone-less Quarian admiral, so I certainly wasn’t going to side with him. I figured I’d just let them decide on their own wars…seems like a personal choice. And as you know, I destroyed the heretic Geth because I thought it more cruel to brainwash half their race (they might not be organic, but they are sentient) than to blow them up.
So I guess that sets up ME3 with the Rachni, half the Geth, (maybe?) all of the Quarians, all of the council races, a small but Wrex-led population of Krogans, and reaper/collector technology on my side. I get the feeling that the Geth and Krogan numbers might cost me something in ME3, but we’ll see.
Now you tell me your choices, and throw in your Shepard’s personal relationships and team member deaths so I can compare and respond at a later time.

ME1 – Romance wise I used to be an Ashley kind of guy, not so much for her irrational distaste for aliens, but more out of default for completely hating Liara. After finding out Tali was an option in ME2, though, I went back and went without any romance so I would technically not be *cheating* when I pursued Tali later on. I saved the Rachni, and do so every playthrough, because I honestly do not have it in me to kill the Queen. To me that’s one of the most evil things you could ever do, in any game, ever. It looks like it won’t come back to bite us though, as I thought it might. I saved the council but I appointed Udina instead of Anderson, because even though he was an ass, he seemed like the right choice for his experience in politics. I let Ashley bite the dust because it seems like everybody hates and kills Kaidan, but I actually liked his character. I dunno.
ME2 – SPOILERSWTF? I also saved the station initially. Unlike the Council choice I didn’t find this one so clear… The Illusive Man was REALLY convincing at the moment the choice is being made. The only thing that made me realize “what have I just done?” (apart from his very sinister appearance during the final conversation) was talking with all of the crew, and EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. (only Garrus is *almost* indifferent, but not quite) is like “What have you done?” Even Miranda and Jacob. I was actually really confused. I plan on going into ME3 with my initial impulse – keeping it – and then going through later with what I think was the “right” choice.
Genophage – yeah, that was actually how I was too. After only hearing Wrex’s side all through ME1 you go in thinking it’s terrible, but to hear Mordin talk about it, it actually seemed like a reasonable thing given the circumstances. I also chose to hold on to the data, but didn’t commit myself either way. The way I figure, given the IMMENSE scope of that Reaper fleet at the end, a few years of breeding without a Genophage won’t bring any meaningful difference in power of the fleet that’s preparing for them, and after the Reaper threat is dealt with, I can’t help but feel the Krogan really ARE dangerous if left unchecked, just by their nature. For every Wrex, there are like 10 war mongering lunatics.
Quarian / Geth – I actually really like the Quarians, as I’ve said, and I really feel for their situation. It sounded to me like the weapon that Tali’s father was working on (and given the email that his friend the other Admiralty Board member sends to you) was something that would actually subdue the Geth and put them under the Quarian’s control once more, instead of an actual armed conflict. If that ends up being the choice – even though I know it will be Renegade out the whazoo – I will recommend they do it. I think by the numbers that would actually make the Quarians more powerful than the entire Citadel fleet, come to think of it. On the otherh and, if it’s an actual armed conflict, I’ll try and negotiate peace if only to be prepared for the Reapers. I went with brainwashing the heretics, not because I thought that was a moral choice at all, but merely because Legion said those ‘programs’ which favored it slightly outnumbered the ones that favored destroying them.
I actually ended up my first time without losing any crew members (apart from the red shirts, which I really felt bad about – but I wasn’t about to speed off and get them before I was done with loyalty quests and upgrading my ship). As far as personal relationships, other than my fanboyism of Tali, it was pretty standard amicable stuff. The exception that comes immediately to mind is that I was a total ass to Jack – one of the most unlikeable characters in any video game I’ve ever played.

Yeah, I sort of wish they ended the game with that ominous shot of the Illusive Man just staring at the screen…very chilling. At some points I wondered to myself if he was actually a Geth in disguise…there’s just something inhuman about his eyes. Guess we’ll see.
As for my decision with the Reaper ship, I never went back and talked to my crew members afterwards. So yeah, maybe they all hate me and I don’t know it, lol.
Also, I’m sort of disappointed that the council decision in ME1 has almost no bearing on ME2. Hopefully the bring everything together properly in ME3.
As for my personal relationships, I really hated Ashley in ME1 and went with the kind-hearted Liara. She was a bit of an obsessed psycho in ME2, though, so I had no problem banging Miranda, mostly because she was the first loyalty mission I did and I felt like her personal story in juxtaposition with her initial demeanor really gave her character some nice depth. Plus I wanted to be wild and crazy by trying things out with a human, and Jack certainly wasn’t an option.
That redhead on your crew always flirts with Shepard, but then she got kidnapped and died, so that went nowhere. But I guess you can save her and have her dance for you in your bedroom if you rush through the relay right away…not risking my crew for a harlot like that.
As for Tali, when she came on to me, I told her that I had feelings for her but that we couldn’t risk the mission. She came on to me after Miranda had pretty much given me the green light, so I just didn’t want to create a bunch of drama. Plus, my love for Tali is special, like a best friend sort of love. Maybe I’ll end with her in 3.
And speaking of best friends, my Shepard’s best friend has always been Garrus (ME1 and 2). He’s just a great, loyal guy, and I loved the ArchAngel twist. I ended up putting him in a leadership role at the end, and he pulled through.
As I mentioned before, Tali’s my other best friend. Grunt’s my boy too, although we haven’t been through as much yet. But for what it’s worth, I used him and Tali for the final fight, and I was freaking out when he slipped and I thought he was going to die.
I really like Mordin as well, but he doesn’t feel as close as Garrus, Tali, or Grunt. I also really enjoy Legion, but more for the cultural learning experience than for his personal companionship.
As for everybody else, they’re alright, but nothing special. I thought Thane was a very interesting and deep character, but the way he talked whenever he was reliving a memory annoyed me a bit. Zaeed had potential as a funny war-story guy, but turned out to be a dick on his loyalty mission. All and all, I thought the party members in this game were much more memorable than the first.

It’s a Mass Effect rap about planet scanning! If Shepard can’t freestyle or DJ at the clubs in ME3 then I’m not buying it.
