Trailers: God of War III interview is gory

Well, not the interview itself, but it wouldn’t surprise me if a man named “Stig” had killed another human being. As for the actual game, based on what I’ve seen, it’s probably the best looking game ever made. Every frame of gameplay looks like a highly-rendered cinematic with a silky smooth frame-rate. That said, the material presented with those graphics seems like the video game equivalent of Saw or Hostel. Do we really need to pull something’s eyeballs out? Do we?

No, we don’t. Sony’s image has always been like this. A unique brand of immaturity and senseless violence that appeals to the exact kind of demographic I absolutely hate.

    To quote Fujin from FF8,

    “RAGE!”

I’ve always thought of Sony’s image as Final Fantasy and MGS. I’ve never really thought of them as promoters of senseless violence, even when they had GTA exclusivity. GOW seems like the only violently over-the-top franchise they have now. I think the onus is more on the developers of this particular franchise, specifically the retard known as David Jaffe and his undiagnosed Tourette’s syndrome. I know the guy’s not even involved with the franchise anymore, but I still blame his influence for the standards of the series.

Final Fantasy began with Nintendo and is now on Xbox too. Hell – the best ones were for the SNES (IMO). Even Metal Gear has its origins on the good ol’ NES and looks to be branching out now.

God of War IS all they have left, I agree, but that’s with a period – and to me, it’s been that way for awhile now. It’s also, as far as true Sony icons, one of the few (I don’t know. Crash Bandicoot?) franchises they can claim which actually began with Sony.

Yeah, I know the series’ origins, but people generally associate them with Sony now because their success really took off on the PS1.

As for home-grown Sony icons, I suppose GOW, LBP, and back in the day Crash Bandicoot. If they pushed Nathan Drake or Ratchet and Clank as mascots, I think they could probably become iconic faces of Sony. And by the way, what a miscalculation on Sony’s part! Trying to turn sack boy into their mascot when they have Drake sitting right there.
