Our Adventures: Lost – “What They Died For”

I’ll be honest with you, I’ve got a real close pal over right now and I’m not entirely interested in writing another 1000 word rant on how disappointed I am with the latest episode of Lost. Pretty much, Jack officially became the Island’s new protector, Ben may or may not have turned to the dark side again after killing Widmore (was really hoping for more of a confrontation than that), and Desmond busted Kate and Sayid out of jail so he could take them to Daniel Faraday’s concert.
As for Jack becoming the protector, no surprises there. The only interesting part was when Jacob said that Kate could still have the job if she wanted, but he just figured she wouldn’t after becoming a mother. It’s unclear whether or not raising Aaron makes her a mother. Personally, I like to think that when she and Jack did it before getting on 316 (Miles even says all that craziness happened last week) she got knocked up and that she’ll carry Jack’s lineage on, but hey, the Lost writers have disappointed before, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it happened again. Now I’m just curious as to what purpose Kate, Sawyer, and Hurley will serve.
The whole thing with Ben joining Focke really annoys me. We’ll start out with Richard getting blown out of the ball park by Smokey. Did that seriously happen? If he dies that way then his character loses any and all credibility he ever had. It was comedic. But yeah, Focke comes, promises Ben the Island again, and Ben changes his decision from earlier in the season for no apparent reason, taking Focke to Widmore and Zoe who are hiding in his secret room behind the bookcase. Focke justly slays Zoe and has a conversation with Widmore. He promises Widmore he’ll spare Penny’s life if he tells him Desmond’s purpose. Ben freaks out and shoots Widmore but not before Focke gets the information he needs. My guess at this point is that this was all a ploy to get back at Widmore for killing Alex and that now he’s simply stuck with Focke. I’m sure the walkie-talkie he gave to Miles (who ran out into the jungle with the C4, I guess) will come into play later on, because I just refuse to believe that Ben has really turned evil again. It would completely contradict this entire season of his character’s development, all in one episode.
In the alternate time-line, Desmond beat Ben up, awakening him to the truth. He told him he was actually trying to help Locke by running him down. Ben believed him and told Locke as much. Locke went to Jack and told him all about it. Jack’s gonna fix Locke now. Ben is Alex’s surrogate father. Desmond turned himself in and Hurley paid Ana Lucia a lot of money to break Desmond, Kate, and Sayid out. They’re all going to a big concert, presumably Faraday’s. Maybe Drive Shaft will show up and play “You All Everybody.” Oh, and Miles is going there too on a date with Charlotte. I’m sure Sawyer will tag along as well. Pretty much, everybody is going to be there. I’m sure something big will happen.
The most important thing we know now is that Jacob is a flawed man who can turn water into wine and who picked his candidates in his image. He needs to protect the light from Smokey, whom is the result of his sin. And lots of other ghey stuff. I would do a list of all the questions that still need to be answered and tally up the final sides, but, you know…who cares? The finale’s probably gonna suck anyways. One more week of this before I can fondly look back on five seasons of Lost.

Thanks for that. I’ll be sure to revisit it when I’m looking for ammunition on how much this show sucks after the finale. I mean really, if they decided three years ago that they were going to end the show after 6 seasons, you’d think they’d have a guy go through everything up to that point and determine all the mysteries they’ve already presented. You can’t just leave that shit unexplained. It’s called a loose end, not ambiguity. I just don’t see how someone can pick an end date for their show and not have it figured out how they’ll resolve everything they’ve presented thus far. This show needed 7 seasons.
