Reactions: Mass Effect 3 and Dragon Age 2 to be revealed at E3?

If GameSpot’s interactive E3 showfloor map is to be believed, then RPG lovers could be in for a treat next week at E3. When browsing through the various company booths, Electronic Arts’ prominently features both Mass Effect 3 and Dragon Age II. Whether this is a legitimate slip or pure speculation on GameSpot’s part is unclear at this point, but there is some evidence to back up the surprise reveals.
The facts behind Dragon Age II are stronger, as Dragon Age: Origins – Awakening came packaged with visual evidence that something related to the franchise is slated for February 1st, 2011. The picture definitely gives off “2″ vibes, but it’s worth noting that that release window would cut into the two years of Origins DLC that BioWare has repeatedly promised. Still, this one’s pretty believable.
As for Mass Effect 3, the only info we have to back that theory up is word that Q1 2011 holds “something far-reaching for Mass Effect,” via some of EA’s financial reportings. BioWare has said that they want a quick turn-around between Mass Effect 2 and 3, but they’ve also said that we won’t be hearing anything on Mass Effect 3 for “quite a few months” as recently as a month ago. I’ll just take these conflicting reports into account, put on my thinking cap, and assume that BioWare doesn’t want to steal Dragon Age II‘s thunder at E3 with Mass Effect 3. The latter certainly could come out at some point in 2011, but I would think it’ll take a little longer than Dragon Age II and it probably won’t be revealed until a little later. But hey, I could be totally off-base here and we could be in store for some awesomeness next week.
Oh, and GameSpot’s E3 map thingy also spills the beans on Dead or Alive 5 if anybody cares.

I’ve gotta believe that ME3 will take much longer than this. I just have to, or between a quick release and apparent multiplayer, its virtually guaranteed to be nothing near what it needs to be to cap off a trilogy built around making your own choices and universe.

I’ll admit that Q1 2011 seems too early, but I wouldn’t mind seeing it later in the year. I mean, they’re probably going to maintain most of the combat system from ME2, so that’s out of the way. And I feel like in developing ME2 they must have worked out a plan on how to connect all the decisions of the series in ME3. I mean, we already know they saved the Rachni for ME3. I’d wager that they probably have the core plot of ME3 pretty well sorted out already. So maybe a quick turn-around is possible.
Maybe not, though.

This article kind of confirms that GameSpot was speculating when they listed ME3 and DAII for EA’s E3 booth, but that doesn’t really change the evidence out there that hints towards reveals. For Dragon Age, at least.
