Reactions: Double Fine’s Costume Quest is full of win

Remember when Tim Schafer said that his studio was working on four indie-style games instead of the traditional AAA endeavor? Well, 1UP recently broke the news on the first of these ambitious little titles. Titled Costume Quest, it’s an adventure/RPG published by THQ and scheduled for a Fall release on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network.
“Set on Halloween night across spookified suburbs, rundown carnival rides, and a local mall, the story follows a young boy searching for his little sister,” says 1UP. “Costume Quest feels familiar — like a lost SNES role-playing adventure ported in high-definition 3D — and laugh out loud funny — like Double Fine’s catalogue.”
Rather than picking bits and pieces of 1UP’s in-depth preview, I’ll just ask that you read it yourself if Costume Quest sounds like an interesting game to you. The gameplay consists of a mix of dramatized combat that brings costumes to life (think of the episode “Halloween” on Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and clever puzzles that require item collection, teamwork with up to four AI friends, and plenty of wit. And most importantly, this game looks unique. Look forward to more coverage on Double Fine’s latest as information becomes available.

Joss Whedon and Tim Schafer should definitely work on a game together.

That could be awesome, but I feel like both are such unique visionaries that they’d clash. Let’s just change it to “Joss Whedon should work on a game.”

Joss Whedon should just put out more awesomeness in general.
