I just found out that in the canon of the L4D universe, BILL IS FUCKING DEAD. He died before the latest DLC sacrificing himself so that the other three survivors could continue. The upcoming L4D2 DLC will allow you to play as the original survivors with L4D2 mechanics in campaigns that will detail how he came to give the ultimate sacrifice.
My night is fucking ruined, quite frankly.

I can’t find my source, but I thought I remember reading that the latest L4D2 DLC was going to let you choose who died.

Let you choose from a gameplay standpoint, like, any of the players can potentially offer to be the one. But the canon is that Bill is the one to make that choice, as established by The Passing, wherein he is not only referred to as dead the entire time by Zoe, Francis, and Louis, but you actually see his body.
