Reactions: Spec Ops: The Line gets to Point B June 26th
Because its development cycle is like a line, and it started at Point A, and there were lots of delays and departures of senior developers, and now it’s suddenly releasing with hardly any press push at all…what I’m trying to say is that the poor quality of my headline is meant to reflect what I now think of this game.
From the little bit of insight we got on the game back in November, it sounded like all of the delays and producer Greg Kasavin’s departure hadn’t affected the core vision negatively. But when a game’s release date springs up just a few months away with hardly any marketing push, it’s usually a bad sign. And after watching that “me too” multiplayer trailer for a game that I didn’t even realize had multiplayer, I’m starting to think that the ambitious, morally gray, “Apocalypse Now of gaming” won’t live up to the expectations it has set. I hope that I’m proven wrong, but this looks like an inexperienced developer that’s lost its veteran leadership getting pushed around by suits that want to alter the game’s vision to better accommodate market trends…*shudder*. Mr. Kasavin might have saved his career by getting out when he did and giving us the wonderful Bastion instead.
