Feature: Top 5 Reasons E3 2009 is Going to be Awesome

It's back!!!
The time is upon us once again. The Electronic Entertainment Expo is literally just around the corner. In honor of E3 returning to the glitz and glamor of years past, I give you the top five reasons E3 will be much more entertaining this year than the last two.
5. Earlier in the year means more announcements

In 2007 and 2008 the ESA made a rather large mistake by holding North America’s biggest gaming event in the middle of July. That meant that a large chunk of the bigger developers and publishesr had already held their own events earlier in the year and announced most, if not all, of their big announcements for the year. That meant less big surprise announcements at E3, and that’s a big part of what the whole show is about.
Well, that won’t be happening at this year’s E3. Lucky for us, E3 is swallowing up the majority of the first week of June this year. So that means more announcements from the companies that you love. Which means more crazy theatrics and surprise announcements than ever. And if you listen to the podcast (like every good reader should), then you know we love surprises.
4. Much, much more space

See those floor plans up there? That was last year’s bite sized E3. If E3′s were candy bars, E3 2008 would be those crappy “fun size” pieces that everybody eats about 12 of, whereas E3 2009 is a nice big “King Size” that you feel guilty and shame-filled after eating. But it tasted so good while you were eating it… right?
Disturbing food metaphors aside… E3 2009 is making an attempt to return to the behemoth size that it once amounted to. It’s not actually returning to that enormous size, where it took up almost all of the Los Angeles Convention Center, but it certainly is going to be much larger than E3 2008. E3 2008 only made use of the comparatively small Concourse hall. This year, the ESA is taking advantage of the massive South and West halls, filling them to the brim with exhibitors. There is still a noticable lack of Kentia Hall, however. But more floor space means more room for exhibitors, which means more room for big flashy booths that will probably trigger epileptic seizures in some show-goers.
3. Booth babes are back

Yup, models are once again allowed on the show floor. President of the Entertainment Software Association (the folks that put the whole shebang together) was quoted in an interview with Destructoid as saying “Models will certainly be a part of that, but they’ll be subject to standards much like in previous E3s.”
So, yeah, booth babes. Not much else to say. Here, have a few more pictures to gawk at.

2. Games, games, games
With all of that expanded space comes more exhibitors, and with more exhibitors come more game companies, and with more game companies come more games. This years E3 is full of big, triple A titles. Many of which have yet to have any sort of public showing. We gave you a small taste of what’s to come in our most recent poll, but there are many, many more games to look forward to at this years E3.
Here’s a small taste:
- Splinter Cell: Conviction
- Assassin’s Creed 2
- Beyond Good & Evil 2
- Project “Trico”
- Dead Rising 2
- Alan Wake
- Modern Warfare 2
- Halo 3: ODST
- Gran Turismo PSP
- Hideo Kojima’s Secret Project
- MAG
- The Conduit
- Something from Nintendo for their hardcore fans… hopefully
- Dark Void
- Lost Planet 2
- Battlefield: Bad Company 2
- Something from Valve
- Dead Space Extraction
- Fuel
- Bayonetta
- The Saboteur
- No More Heroes 2
- Ghostbusters
- Brutal Legend
- Mass Effect 2
- Dragon Age: Origins
- Final Fantasy XIII
- Batman: Arkham Asylum
- The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks
- Heavy Rain
- Uncharted 2
- God of War III
Yup, that’s a lot of games. And that’s not even all of them.

Also, to be more serious and what-not…Starcraft II will actually be coming out by the end of 2009. That’s what they say. And then the other MMORPG that Blizzard is starting to craft will come out some time in 2015. Yeah.

Yeah, I can’t believe that we forgot that. I’m not much of a PC gamer, but Starcraft II is pretty big. I also get the feeling that Crytek (the dudes who made Far Cry and Crysis and Your Mom Cries When I Stick It In Her) will be announcing something.

I seem to recall, a few months ago, you telling me that E3 was done, and that it was going to suck. I told you that the opposite was true. Now look where we are.

Cite a date please. Because as of last year, E3 was done. But then they smartened up and brought it back to the old style. And Tim, what’s up with all the negativity man? You haven’t made an uplifting comment in months. We’re all about love here at the IB.

I must be an emo bitch these days, I suppose. Or, it could be that I’ve been home for two weeks now, and haven’t seen either of the fine gentlemen here at IB. Or, that I haven’t heard word of another LAN. Take your pick. As for the date, it was the night of the last LAN, when we spent hours discussing the industry.

We’re working on putting a LAN together soon, but we’ll go with emo bitch because I like the idea of calling you a bitch. And I said a lot of things at that LAN, I was drunk with the electricity of my awesomeness, lol.
