My Gaming History: My first gaming memories belong to the NES despite the fact that I remember little else from that time in my life. But while that classic controller may have been the first to grace my hands, the Sega Genesis soon came into my life as well. Still, those years are pretty hazy and I can’t seem to recall much more than Sonic and some F-16 flight combat game. The N64 was the first console that I truly remember, and it’s also the one that turned me into a gamer in my opinion. It was back in those days that I started to develop a love for the FPS, probably because of classics like GoldenEye and Perfect Dark. I also had a brief affinity for wrestling games, but that didn’t last. From there I moved on to the Sega Dreamcast, an amazing system that just didn’t have enough good games to support it. Shame, that is. Luckily, the next generation wasn’t quite as disappointing as Sega’s swan song, as the PS2, GameCube, and Xbox ushered in a golden era of gaming for me. It was during that generation of consoles that I fell in love with the RPG, began to start seeing games as more than just toys, and waded into the waters of gaming culture. Those years treated me pretty well. Now here we are in the year 2009, and I’m part of a website dedicated to video games and video game culture. I think it’s safe to say that games are pretty much my life. Hopefully InsaneBear will connect me to other gamers out there who want to discuss the past, present, and future of these things we call video games.

This here paragraph is coming approximately one year after I wrote the above, so I suppose it should deal with the gap in time between the two. Pretty much, I hesitantly started InsaneBear and some sort of evil forces have aligned to prevent me from stopping. This site is as much a part of me now as the very hobby I write about. And speaking of that hobby, the past year as seen me thirst for some new and different gaming experiences that I can only hope will be satisfied in due time. I’ve also grown disillusioned with the competitive multiplayer scene and have become more fond of RPGs. I think of more new game ideas now than I ever did before and hope to see developers realize more ambitious goals. Other than that, it’s just business as usual for me. I’m still just a passionate gamer who likes to write.
And the legend of Codfish continues to grow, with yet another year of running this site in the books. I suppose things really haven’t changed all that much since my last entry in this oh-so-interesting auto-biography. Unfortunately, I didn’t do a great job of seeking out all those new game experiences I wanted to over the past year, but hopefully my new subscription to GameFly will help out in that. Of course, that assumes I’ll actually have time to play all the games I want to. Have you people seen how many games come out these days? It’s insane! I somehow doubt I’ll be able to put 180 hours into Skyrim like I did with Oblivion. If my life is going to continue being as busy as it is, then I feel like you might be reading my complaints about the lack of bite-sized gaming sessions available when I return to this here page next year. But that’s a road we’ll cross when we get to it; until then, I’m just going to keep playing as much as I can and forcing all of you to read about my experiences.
