Review: Splinter Cell: Conviction

Score: Meh
Difficulty played on: Normal
Time to beat: About 7 hours
Loved the most: Co-op.
Hated the most: Pretty much everything about the single-player campaign.
When studying Microsoft’s entry into the console race, people often point to Halo as the sole reason for the Windows maker’s success. I’d certainly say that the Master Chief and friends played the lead role in Microsoft’s rise to power, but one franchise that often gets over-looked is Splinter Cell. The high-tech espionage practiced by Sam Fisher and Third Echelon gave Microsoft a viable competitor to one of Sony’s most successful series, Metal Gear Solid. So it is with high regard that people look back on Splinter Cell and with great anticipation that they’ve looked forward to the several years-in-the-making reboot, Splinter Cell: Conviction. But as shadowy government operations tend to do, everything goes horribly wrong in Sam Fisher’s latest outing and we’re left with an underdeveloped, quasi-stealth game who’s only saving grace is a good co-operative mode.
Author: CodyTrailers: Halo: Reach interview shows gameplay, awesomeness
It really does look pretty frickin’ fantastic. I know I’m looking forward to the beta on May 3rd. And for all you poor saps who won’t have access to it, I’ll give you some impressions to sate your desires once I’ve played it a bit. But until then just enjoy the smooth stylings of Luke Smith and Brad Shoemaker, the most dynamic interview duo to ever grace InsaneBear.

That interview’s a little old, but I figured I’d include it so everybody can refresh their memories on this game, because frankly, I had absolutely no idea it was coming out this soon and have seen very little marketing for it. But apparently Realtime Worlds’ GTA-inspired MMO will be releasing on June 29th in the U.S., July 1st in Europe, and July 2nd in the U.K.

Hopefully we’ll get some real nice mind-bending psychological terror in this game.
Author: CodyTrailers: Dead Space 2 looks Dead Spacey
That can be both a good and bad thing. Good because the first Dead Space was by all accounts an awesome game. Bad because I feel like a “bigger, better, and more bad ass” approach to the sequel probably won’t work as well as it would for other franchises. Now can I has my Mirror’s Edge sequel as long as we’re on the topic of great original IPs from EA in the year 2008?
Author: CodyReactions: Bungie signs 10 year publishing deal with Activision

Today saw word break that the developer behind the Halo franchise, Bungie, has signed on with its first third-party publisher since the studio unexpectedly cut ties with Microsoft and became an independent entity shortly after the release of Halo 3. Since then, Microsoft has continued to publish Halo titles from Bungie and will continue to publish any future iterations of the franchise (which Bungie will cease working on after Halo: Reach). But Microsoft will not have the pleasure of publishing Bungie’s next big franchise, as the studio finalized its agreement with Acitivision-Blizzard on a ten year deal for exclusive worldwide rights to bring “Bungie’s next big action game universe to market.”
Author: CodyTrailers: Madden 11 interview
I’m not sure I fully understand what they’re trying to say in this roundtable, but it sort of sounds like they’re taking away the ability to call the plays you want to? If that’s the case, then F that game, bro. Maybe they’re just wording it very poorly and I’m missing something here. I was actually thinking about buying Madden this year.

And it sucks…at least there’s a little humor in the fact that Microsoft is putting out commercials for a beta.
Author: CodyRandom: Amazon offering 360 Gold Box deals all day long

Nothing to do with Amazon, just haunting in every possible way.
Hit those deals up!
Author: CodyTrailers: Halo: Reach’s armor customization
I know it’s an incredibly boring video, but it’s Halo, so by law, I am required to report it. What is interesting about it is this credit system, which I’m learning about for the first time. I wonder how one earns credits? Is this Reach‘s take on the unlockable rewards of Modern warfare? I guess we’ll see soon enough, what with the beta arriving on May 3rd.
