Reactions: Killzone 3′s multiplayer now available for free*

Well, at least until you reach the Sergeant I level. See, contrary to initial reports, Killzone 3 Multiplayer is not free-to-play. Sony originally communicated the PSN download as a F2P experience with a level cap which could be bypassed for $15. Turns out, it’s more of a demo, because once you reach that level cap, you’ll have to pony up to even continue playing. Way to communicate, Sony!

Trailers: So what’s this I Am Alive all about?

As you can see from the video above, it is clearly not about an everyday Joe, no matter what the developers want us to believe. But there probably aren’t many people interested in this game for an authentic narrative to begin with. So let’s forgive the super parkour abilities and look to the very interesting and unique tactical elements Ubisoft is bringing to the Survival-Horror genre.

Reactions: Gears 3 embraces mother nature in new DLC pack

I always thought that Cole Train was the only force of nature in the Gears universe, but the upcoming “Forces of Nature” DLC pack seems like it’s going to prove my theory wrong. Containing three new maps–Aftermath, Artillery, and Cove–as well as two remakes–Jactino and Raven Down–the new content will place players “either in the middle of, or amidst the aftermath of, a natural disaster.” You can follow the link for detailed descriptions of each map.

Trailers: The Witcher 2 Deals Only in Severed Heads

You know what moment I love? The moment The Witcher 2 is released on the Xbox 360. That, and the moment when human heads get traded like currency. April 17th for the former. But my guess is it won’t be long after until we see the latter.

Trailers: Mass Effect 3 Wants You to Take Earth Back

You know what would really get me excited to “take earth back?” Some gameplay footage. Or, really, just an extended trailer of Shepard stabbing Husks in the face and generally just being a bouse. Or dubstep. Dubstep makes everything better.

Podception: 2/26/12

Unicornception

It’s a podcast within a podcast… within another podcast! On this very special Inception themed episode of the InsaneBearcast we go three levels deep (if not more) as we welcome an unexpected guest, discuss the finer points of butchering The Last Unicorn, and talk about some video game stuff. Then we go one level too far, as we drop into limbo and delve deep into the filmography of one Nicholas Cage while attempting to bring back our discussion question. So make sure you’ve got  a kick to bring you back out of this one, and don’t forget your totem, or you could be trapped in this podcast forever! We recommend listening to this one either with headphones, or the volume turned all the way up to 11 in order to get the full Inception experience.

Features: The Soldier’s Journey in Metal Gear Solid 3

So I recently had the pleasure of checking another game off of my shame listMetal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Cited by many as the pinnacle of the iconic series and as one of gaming’s finest examples of “art,” I figured that my experience with it might actually be worthy of some critical analysis. So rather than breaking down the learning curve and polygon counts, I focused mainly on Snake Eater‘s characters and their thematic implications.
