Reactions: New Assassin’s Creed game on the way
GameSpot is reporting that in a postearnings release conference call yesterday, Ubisoft confirmed that the company will release a new Assassin’s Creed game sometime during the April 1, 2011 – March 31, 2012 fiscal year. The publisher gave no details on the new title, but promised more info for its full-year earnings report in May.

Don’t you just love misleading headlines that dupe you into reading a story you might otherwise not? I sure do. Take for instance, this crafty work of deception. Contrary to what the headline might lead you to believe, it’s actually just a play on words involving the name of developer Massive (World in Conflict) and the Assassin’s Creed franchise. See, Ubisoft has tweeted that Massive will be teaming up with Ubisoft Annecy on “a project for Assassin’s Creed.”

Some of you may know who finely bearded game developer Patrice Desilets is. For those of you who don’t, he was the creative director for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and the first two Assassin’s Creed games. He’s sort of a big deal. That’s why many were surprised by his sudden departure from Ubisoft earlier this year. But he’s back and he’s forming a Montreal team with his new employer, THQ. Hear it from the man himself:

Well, Ubisoft’s just rolling out the bad news, aren’t they? According to Gamasutra, we can expect a brand new Assassin’s Creed game little more than a year after Assassin’s Creed 2. As if the rushed development time isn’t enough of a worry, the new title “will be the first in the series to have an online multiplayer mode.” Oh joy…
