Feature: In the year 2010…

Maybe Nintendo will finally make sense of this in 2010. Maybe...

So I’ve put Dragon Age: Origins down long enough for all the other humans to tell me about this new year that’s on the way. Being the logical person that I am (and one who is most certainly not taking orders from an insane bear), I figured I’d judgmentally look back on 2009 this Saturday, once we’ve officially moved into the new year and had enough recovery time to write a Game of the Year feature. But for today, it’s still 2009, so it only seems appropriate to hopefully gaze ahead to the coming year and build expectations that will only be shattered. Such is life. That’s why we have cheesy New Year’s resolutions that try to compensate for last year’s disappointments. But we’re not to that point yet! For now, let’s just focus on all the goodness that 2010 can bring.

Well, that clears a lot of things up. This game really is looking pretty good.

Trailers: Best cosplay ever and a snippet of BioShock 2 gameplay

That cosplay is scary good, especially in the aquarium setting. The video’s okay too, I guess.

Trailers: BioShock 2 single player and multiplayer interviews

It’d certainly be a stretch for this game to approach the masterpiece that was the first BioShock, but gosh darn it, for the first time since BioShock 2‘s announcement, I’m actually excited about it. It actually sounds like they’ll manage to create an interesting story again and all the gameplay elements seem vastly improved.

Trailers: Things are getting crazy in Rapture

This new BioShock 2 trailer might not show any earth-shattering new gameplay features, but it does indicate that the action’s going to be a lot more frantic this time around. I worry that the gameplay might get a little stale with no significant tweaks from the first game’s formula, but hey, that video certainly makes it look fun. They really need to consider adding in a gruesome boring animation for the drill though.

Reactions: BioShock 2 gets official release date

According to GameSpot, Big Sis will be coming out to play on February 9th, 2010, just in time to distract you from your lonely and numbing Valentine’s Day. The sequel to 2007′s classic BioShock will release simultaneously on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. Yay!

Trailers: First BioShock 2 multiplayer trailer

While it certainly won’t pull me away from Modern Warfare 2, it does look like it could be an interesting change-of-pace game if there’s a decent community. I just hope there’s some more strategic modes than death match to take advantage of the unique capabilities of plasmids. On a side note: what ever engine the BioShock games run on is really bad at making believable looking people.

Reactions: Spring 2010 Just Got Even Better

So word on the street is that Bioshock 2 got delayed to the first half of 2010. A bit of a disappointment, but hopefully the game will be better off for it. At least, that’s what Take-Two CEO Ben Feder thinks. “We felt that it was essential to invest the additional time to ensure that this title will deliver what its fans expect and deserve.”

E3 ’09: Borderlands, Bioshock 2, and Mass Effect 2

Here’s a teaser trailer for my dark-horse game of the year, Borderlands. Between the RPG and FPS elements, mixed with driving and exploration segments, with lots of loot and weapons, and a heavy co-op focus, this game looks great. Oh, and the unique visual style is just gravy.

And here’s a trailer for BioShock 2, which pretty much shows us nothing new. This game really didn’t have the showing I was hoping for at E3.
