delay
Reactions: Max Payne 3 delayed to May 15th
Alas, we won’t get to spend anytime with Hawaiian-shirt Max for a couple of months longer than expected, but if the delay helps the game to play as awesome as it looks in that video, then I’m totally alright with it. I mean, everything I know about Rockstar tells me that they’ll find a way to screw the gameplay up, but that trailer just looks so slick, especially the environmental stuff.

At least that’s the case according to Amazon and GameStop. So if you’re looking to play remastered versions of Silent Hill 2 and 3, complete with new voice actors (what’s up with that?), you’ll have to wait roughly six weeks longer than before. But at least everything will be fresh in your mind for comparisons to the latest entry in the series, Silent Hill: Downpour, which also releases in March.

I'm putting all my points into the beard stat!
I’ve got some good news and some bad news folks. We’ll get the unsavory business out of the way first: the Xbox 360 version of CD Projekt Red’s acclaimed The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings has been delayed from Q4 2011 to Q1 2012. The reasons for the delay were cited as a need for extra polish and, more importantly, a legal dispute between CD Projekt Red and Namco Bandai over international distribution rights for the 360 version. Can somebody please just cast a charm spell and get this game in my hands as soon as possible?

God damn it. Executive Producer Casey Hudson says that “the development team is laser focused on making sure Mass Effect 3 is the biggest, boldest and best game in the series, ensuring that it exceeds everyone’s expectations.” One could probably interpret that as meaning they want more time for polish and the like.

No kitty-rat-bird for you this Christmas...
*Sigh.* I suppose we should have seen it coming, but the cat that Team ICO was using for The Last Guardian‘s mo-cap ran away; it probably got sick of Fumito Ueda meticulously gluing chicken feet to its paws every session. Obviously, this is bad for everyone involved: the cat will surely have trouble finding a home looking the way it does, Ueda-san could blame himself and go into a deep depression, and the extra development time needed to find a suitable replacement kitty is going to push this title into 2012. At least the revered game director has the decency to apologize:

But the bad news is a little more bearable after watching the video, right? Right? God damn you, Duke Nukem Forever! And what’s up with the international release (June 10th) coming before the North American release (June 14th)? It’s un-American, and if I know one dude who represents America, it’s the Duke.
Author: CodyReactions: Portal 2 pushed back to April 20th

In what seems to be standard procedure these days, a highly anticipated title has been delayed. Originally scheduled for Holiday 2010, the sequel to award-winning First-Person Puzzler Portal had been delayed to February. It has now been pushed back another two months to April 20th, 2011.
Author: CodyReactions: Crysis 2 delayed to 2011, Need for Speed Shift 2 announced

Man, if the back end of 2010 wasn’t already looking lean then it certainly is now. EA’s most recent financial earnings report revealed that the anticipated follow-up to sci-fi FPS Crysis has been pushed into the first quarter of 2011 for a “better window and polishing.” That pretty much leaves Halo: Reach and Fable III as the only games I care about for the rest of 2010.

Perhaps the portals effect time now...hey, it explains the delay!
And you thought 2009 was the year of the game delay! We’re not even to E3 yet and high profile games are already getting pushed back to next year. But yeah, I’d love to sugar coat this bad news with some good reason, but there’s really only one way to put it–both games are delayed, deal with it. Let’s just hope that the delays make them better games. Maybe it’s finally dawned on Valve that they’re terrible people for releasing four separate games since Episode 2 and they’re going to put Portal 2 on the back burner until Episode 3 is finished…that, or they could just be gearing up to put out Left 4 Dead 3 by November.
Author: CodyReactions: Red Dead Redemption delayed…sigh

This cowboy will be coming into focus May 18th.
Remember when Rockstar was getting bad publicity for allegedly poor working conditions at its San Diego studio, the one working on Red Dead Redemption? Remember when they assured everybody that it was all non-sense and made a point of saying that the game would make its release date despite the controversy? Well, apparently Rockstar heard that delaying games is the new fad in the industry and thought they’d hop on the bandwagon. What this means is that we won’t be seeing Red Dead Redemption until May 18th. Thanks a lot, guys. Oh, and Mafia II was delayed to the August-October time frame, as if anybody cares about Mafia II.
