Finally! I mean, not to the whole face-blowing thing–I’m rather attached to mine–but to this map pack getting a release date after an eternity of the oh-so-helpful “December 2011″ window. $15 will get you four updated Battlefield 2 maps to leave in rubble while racking up your kill count in Battlefield 3. However, the December 6th release is only for the PS3 version; 360 and PC gamers will have to wait ’til December 13th. Hopefully there will be some buildings left by then.

And of course, if you pre-ordered DICE’s visually stunning frag-fest, you should have received a free download voucher for “Back to Karkand.” Perhaps you’ll put the savings toward your reconstructive facial surgery?

Well, I certainly know where I’m not taking a vacation to any time soon. Perhaps DICE’s insatiable drive to create inhospitable locales will inspire some revolutionary fire technology in the Frostbite 3.0 engine that can be used to recreate Dresden. But until then, I guess we’ll just have to settle for the ridiculous structural destruction of Frostbite 2.0 and the “Back to Karkand” DLC pack, scheduled for a December release at the standard $15 price (assuming you didn’t receive the free download voucher by pre-ordering Battlefield 3.

I’m as burnt out on Military Shooters as anyone, but if that doesn’t look fun to you then maybe you’ve got the wrong hobby. An exact date for the DLC has yet to be announced, but you can expect to papy $15 for it when it does arrive. If you pre-ordered Battlefield 3 and got your free download voucher, you don’t have to worry about that, though.

This Battlefield 3 launch trailer gives us a rare glimpse at the game’s campaign, and it seems to be full of all the modern combat staples: bustin’ down doors, rappelling, car chases, yelling, swearing. Battlefield 3 comes out tomorrow, so I recommend you rappel from the roof of your local games retailer, kick in the door, and yell and swear until somebody hands you a copy.*

Skip ahead to 2:30 for gameplay and watch all the way through to the end, as there’s some more tasty footage after a short break. But as good as this game looks, I have to say that the demoers’ incessant “communication,” while bordering on comical, simply served to highlight the lack of realistic communication in the game. As a developer that’s known for its superb sound design, I have to say I’m a little disappointed in DICE’s lack of attention to combat dialogue. It could add both a sense of realism and a new level of intensity.

But, you know, I guess they were too busy getting just the right performances for those silly and dehumanizing one-liners that are spewed out every time the player kills a group of enemies.

Don't trust that panda; he's insane!

The anticipation of a scrumptious delight is often times just as good as the consumption the treat itself. Imagining just how heavenly an experience you’re about to embark on with only your own reservations to hold you back has a way of stirring joy like few other things. This is how I’m feeling right now about a couple of juicy, succulent, down-right delicious rumors.

First up is Official PlayStation Magazine’s (via CVG) tip that “The Frostbite 2 engine will pave the way for Mirror’s Edge to make a free-running return.” Rumors of a sequel to one of the boldest and most innovative games this generation has seen have been mounting over the past year, and the idea of first-person parkour in this engine is…desirable. Battlefield 3 needs to ship so DICE can put all their efforts into this gift from Heaven.

Another game that some people are looking forward to just as fervently as the above is TimeSplitters 4. And apparently, we won’t have to wait that much longer for it. Official PlayStation Magazine (via Gematsu) takes the honors of being the first to report this rumor as well, saying “Gun-wielding monkeys are finally making a comeback! A fourth Timesplitters title is to be announced soon.” If the marketability of a gun-wielding monkey isn’t enough proof for you, then perhaps a year’s worth of steady rumors lends some credibility to the mag’s tip. Could soon be as soon as Gamescom or PAX Prime?

Lastly, MMO Champion is reporting that Blizzard has has filed a trademark for “computer game software” under the name Mists of Pandaria. Could it be that the next World of Warcraft expansion focuses on the Pandarens? I know I’m intrigued by anything involving panda-like creatures!

Now pull yourself away from the keyboard before your ravenous gluttony for rumors leads to something horrible!
