The more I see this game the more I find its goodness hard to deny. Sure, it’s an expansion at heart, but they’re doing some really cool things with the story and the gameplay looks like good ole fashion Halo action. The one thing that’s really selling me on this is the Firefly guys personalizing the characters so much. Should be an interesting spin-off.

More Halo 3 Multiplayer!

This could be looked at as the beginning of the end for Halo 3. After this map pack and ODST, Bungie claims that they’re not working on anymore Halo 3 content. But for the time being Halo 3 players have, for the low, low price of 800 MS Points, 3 new maps on which to kill each other. So… go have fun and kill each other.

The long-awaited Mythic Map Pack drops into Xbox LIVE Marketplace. Investigate Orbital’s abandoned hallways – before it was evacuated, the Quito Space Tether was heralded as the “Civil Engineering Monument of the Millennium.” Witness Assembly, where Scarab hulls loom overhead, being decontaminated in preparation for the city-sized Lekgolo colonies that will breathe life into the massive metal husks. Accurate representation of Bungie's statement

I’d be remiss in my journalistic duties if I didn’t inform our fine readers that Bungie is not, contrary to other reports, working on any more Halo 3 content after the upcoming ODST expansion. Apparently, we all misinterpreted what Allen Murray said. When he said that they would be “working” on it for 2 more years, that was not meant to mean more expansions or maps or anything, it was supposed to imply simple housekeeping duties with Halo 3. Matchmaking playlist updates, beating people with the banhammer, server maintenance, stuff like that. So, I guess this is it for Halo 3. It was good knowin’ ya.

This guy really likes his Halo

At the beginning of last month, Bungie’s Brian Jarrard, in an interview with IGN, decided that he would say “we are viewing the ODST campaign and the included multiplayer maps as the final exclamation point in our ongoing efforts to extend the Halo 3 experience,” thus bringing the saga of Halo 3 to an end. However, this week at GDC, Bungie’s Allen Murray completely nullified Jarrard’s comment by saying “Halo 3 took two and a half years to make, and we’re still working on it. We’ll probably be working on it for two more years.”

One wonders how long you can beat a dead horse until you’ve destroyed every molecule. With multiple map packs and a full fledged expansion, you’d think this would be a good time for Bungie to move on, but as long as that horse keeps crapping money every time you strike it, I’m sure Bungie will be happy to keep beating away. Don’t get me wrong, I like Bungie, and I liked Halo 3, but doesn’t it seem like it’s starting to get a bit irrelevant by now?
