Trailers: The Many Ways to Brutally Murder Your Fellow Survivors in I Am Alive
Slashing their throat with a machete? Check. Bludgeoning them in the back of the head with your pistol? Check. Shooting them with a hunting bow and then ripping the arrow from their cold, dead corpse? Check. Kicking them into a bottomless pit of despair? Check.

Before we move on to how out of touch Microsoft’s marketing people are (oh, there’s a trailer below that will blow your mind), let us first discuss the game featured in the above video–I Am Alive. The title’s development struggles have been well documented and there’s certainly reason for concern when we stop to consider that it shifted developers mid-development and transformed from a full-fledged retail game to a downloadable title. And that gameplay does look a little rough around the edges in the graphical department. But I can honestly say that Ubisoft Shanghai’s take on the post-apocalypse is one of my most anticipated games of the year. It’s just fundamentally different from nearly every other game on the market today, and in this humble writer’s hopes, has the potential to revolutionize video games’ take on the post-apocalypse in a very positive way. So dude: seriously, just buy it.

Is not “Don’t talk about I Am Alive.” Though, given the game’s long development cycle, they certainly could have been operating under that rule for a while.

I know. Terrible headline. But we’ve all been milking the title of this game for terrible headlines for a long time, so I see no reason to stop. Oh, except maybe for the fact that I Am Alive has been given an official release window. The game’s supposedly going to see the light of day “this winter” as a downloadable title on XBLA and PSN, so you won’t have to put up with subpar headlines much longer.

Skip ahead to 0:31 for this leaked gameplay footage of Ubisoft’s perpetually hiding I Am Alive. The graphics might not be the most cutting edge (if you pay attention to the climbing animations, the engine bears a striking resemblance to 2010′s Splinter Cell: Conviction), but from a design perspective, this game is doing things that nothing else is even attempting.

Author: CodyReactions: I Am Alive reborn?

If you read my most recent feature, then you should know that I’ve been looking forward to Ubisoft’s Survival (note lack of Horror) game set in a Chicago ravaged by an epic earthquake. Unfortunately, a lot of uncertainty has surrounded the game’s development and I wasn’t expecting it ’til 2012, if ever. But if a report from Eurogamer is true, then we might be seeing I Am Alive in 2011 after all.
Author: CodyE3 2010: I Am Alive still alive?
Last night’s Ubisoft press conference came and went without a mention of the long in development disaster game I Am Alive, but a trailer that’s surfaced online indicates that it is still in development and scheduled for a spring 2011 release. I definitely think it’s got a cool and unique premise, so let’s just hope it doesn’t get announced as a PS3 exclusive or something like that today!
