Podcast: 7/13/09
Here’s another heaping helping of podcast for all of you out there in InsaneBearland. This week we talk about developers saying things that we like to hear, various things about Eidos, and the announcement of Command and Conquer 4. We kinda, sorta have a special guest as well, but it’s not the person we expected, and he doesn’t say much. So enjoy our crazy antics on this weeks InsaneBearcast.

I didn't think pictures of Dude Huge without a Lancer in hand existed...
That caption was going to be a witty D&D reference given what I’m about to tell you, but really, Clifford Bleszinski looking professional for once is the real news here. But anyways, earlier this week the Epic Design Director told British magazine Develop that, “I had a conversation with Harvey Smith–one of the lead designers on [the action RPG] Deus Ex–and said to him the future of shooters is RPGs. He said he completely agreed.” Bleszinski then went on to praise hybrid shooter BioShock and offered a few words of excitement for Gearbox’s upcoming Borderlands. “Randy Pitchford at Gearbox is an absolutely brilliant designer and business man, and I think Borderlands is not getting as much hype as it should because it really looks like a more accessible, shootery version of Fallout.” If future Gears of War titles move in a direction closer to Deus Ex and BioShock and Borderlands, I’m completely fine with that. I have a soft spot for shooter-RPGs and wish there were more. Speaking of which, it’d be nice to hear something about Deus Ex 3.
Author: CodyOur Adventures: The most depressing LAN I’ve ever been to

I wonder if Delta Squad has trouble finding friends to kill Locusts with?
So InsaneBear held our second LAN of the summer this past Wednesday, and it went considerably worse than I ever could have imagined. I mean, I guess it was technically a Local Area Network, but I’m not really sure a grand total of five people is in the true spirit of a LAN. Guess that sort of thing happens when you go up against a bachelor party and most of your friends don’t care about video games to begin with. Understandably, my morale is too low right now to properly chronicle the events of the night. So enjoy some pictures instead and piece the story together however you want to.

That pretty much covers the only LANable games out there.
So as you may have inferred from the title of this snazzy little post, we here at InsaneBear recently had our first LAN of the summer. It was sort of a low-key and disorganized affair in comparison to what we usually do, but it was fun nonetheless. We thought we’d share some pictures of the good times and spread the good word about LANs.
Author: CodyReactions: Updated: Left 4 Dead will be free over Steam for 24 hours only this Friday

"Zoey's putting out for free!"
Update: 1UP was kind enough to confirm that this is simply a trial of the game that will last for said 24 hours on Friday, May 1st. Once the 24 hours is up, your downloaded copy will lock and you’ll have to pay up to play. I apologize for getting anybody’s hopes up who was thinking that they could get the game for free, no strings attached. I also feel like Kotaku should apologize for posting this story in the first place and failing to mention the word “trial.” But that’s my problem. You should still download the trial if you haven’t played the game before.
