Feature: Top 10 games to play when you’re depressed

Some might think I’m making this list because I’m depressed about not being able to cover E3 in person. That would make for a very appropriate top ten list with E3 kicking off this upcoming week, but anybody with half a brain should be terrified at the prospect of covering E3 in any capacity, let alone in person. No, this melancholy musing is the result of life just being lifey. As they say, you can’t always get what you want, but if you try sometime, you just might find a video game capable of occupying your thoughts until what you want changes.

With Activision recently putting the kibosh on the Guitar Hero franchise, and really, the Rhythm genre as a whole, I got to wondering if this console generation will see the collapse of any more genres. With escalating development costs, publishers are more eager than ever to turn their properties into annual tent-pole releases in the pursuit of short-term profits. The Rhythm genre, which many argued to be a fad in the first place, saw this gross mismanagement go to an extreme with literally dozens of games released within a five year period. And despite all of the lost jobs, lost investments, and lost opportunities, Activision doesn’t seem to have learned their lesson.
Author: CodyFeature: Should games tell stories or build worlds?

"We could just make the player do both for us..."
Or in other words, should games narrate or immerse? We all tend to get so caught up in buzz-words and hype that we rarely stop to think about what we’re really getting vs. want we really want. It may seem like a strange thing to ponder at first. Why not just do both? Well, ideally that’s what games should be doing, but there are very few that actually manage to do this well. So let’s take a few minutes to examine the pros and cons of each side here.

You don't even want to know what it's like to get tea-bagged by an alien...
While it’s not very much to go on, Kotaku is reporting a job listing for BioWare Montreal posted on EA’s job site, which calls for a multiplayer programmer. What’s interesting is the wording of the job description.

Yup, I’m totally doing this. I hate that I’m doing this, my stupid real life has been interfering with my fantasy game journalist life this past week, so I need to get caught up some how. Just click your links and be quiet!

Nothing to do with EA...just a timely image.
Well, the cat’s out of the bag on EA’s Fiscal 2011 lineup. Translated from $$$ to English, that means we know (for now) what games to look forward to for the period beginning April 1st, 2010 and ending March 31st, 2011.

"I've been expecting you."
Well then, I’m your bear. Now revel in the borderline-trivial knowledge I bestow upon you.
Author: CodyRandom: Seth Green’s comedy is really under-appreciated
I mean, he really showed his acting chops back in the day with Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the Austin Powers movies, and now days he’s using Robot Chicken to prove that he’s just as good a writer. I vote for BioWare to allow him to write his own stuff for Joker in future Mass Effect games.

Sneak attack!
In an unusually strange phenomenon, a hot rumor lasted little more than a day before the truth came to light. What I’m talking about of course, is the new Mass Effect DLC. After several sources leaked information on the new content’s existence, 1UP has confirmed that the “Pinnacle Station” DLC is ready for download as we speak. 400 Microsoft Points ($5) will get you two to three hours of what BioWare promises to be “13 exciting combat scenarios.” Said combat will take place on an isolated space station.
