Feature: Top 15 games to play over the holidays

First off: no Mario games. We all love Nintendo’s main man, but I could list off the good plumber’s titles ’til the cows come home, and I don’t have any cows…so that might go on for a while. Also, all entries come from this generation of consoles, because frankly, my entire list would consist of GoldenEye otherwise. So with that said, how can you get your gaming fix this holiday season with all manner of trash talking siblings, rambunctious cousins, and overly curious aunts and uncles scurrying around the house?

Trailers: The Bubblator 2: Judgment Day

Okay, so it’s actually Rayman Origins, but I thought I’d just throw an alternative title out there. Either way, Rayman does not seem like a dude you want to mess with. I mean, that’s just cruel to use people as trampolines just as they’re coming to terms with their new molecular structure.

E3 2011: Bring ‘er home, little doggie

E3 2011 is finally over, and against all odds, I’ve managed to retain my sanity throughout (well, at least enough to provide this final sampling of videos for my loyal readers). It was a pretty eventful show packed with more good games than I can remember seeing in a long time, and I can’t wait to get my hands on all of them. That said, I think I prefer the one at a time approach.

Trailers: Michel Ancel explains…something…about Rayman Origins

I’m not really entirely sure what he’s trying to get at with such a substantial focus on things that are blatantly obvious, like 2D being simpler than 3D for example. Regardless, Rayman Origins is a dang pretty game, and pretty things are almost always better when you can enjoy them with up to three friends.

Reactions: 1st episode of Rayman Origins coming this Christmas

According to a recently posted FAQ page for the game, we can expect to see the first episode of Ubisoft’s gorgeous 2D platformer Rayman Origins “for Christmas 2010.” It will see release on HD consoles first, with the “Wii, PC, iPad, 3DS to be considered.” Personally, I’m very interested to see how the game turns out considering it’s the first to be developed using Ubisoft’s new UBIart Framework tools, which were crafted specifically for the purpose of making small team game development easier. Rayman Origins is currently being developed by a team of only five people. If these new tools prove to be a hit, that could have some big implications in the industry when the system goes open-source in 2011.
