Trailers: Kim Swift’s Excellent Trans-dimensional Adventure

Some people call it Quantum Conundrum. As the video above shows, it’s pretty easy to see how Swift’s experience working on Portal has influenced this upcoming downloadable title. I wouldn’t even be surprised to see hidden extras linking the two games; a fluffy GLaDOS, perhaps?

Review: Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Score: Great
Difficulty Played On: Give Me a Challenge (Second hardest of three difficulty settings)
Time to Beat: 36 hours
Platforms: Xbox 360, Playstation 3
Loved the Most: Beautifully crafted, immersive world; exploration.
Hated the Most: Terrible boss fights; long load times.

The Deus Ex series is one that is defined by choice. Games that are revered for allowing you to play the way you want to. Deus Ex: Human Revolution is no exception to this rule and allows you a level of freedom not seen in many games today. It truly lets you decide how to play. However, while Human Revolution delivers on big promises such as choice-driven gameplay and an engrossing, believable vision of the future, it often falters on some of the more technical aspects: long load times, poor animations, and spotty AI can temper the otherwise fantastic experience of playing Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Trailers: 17 minutes of Hitman: Absolution gameplay

You see, linearity works with games like Uncharted because they’re cinematic roller-coasters driven by engaging characters. It’s pretty much Indiana Jones on your PS3. Hitman, on the other hand, has never been about story or characters. The series has built its fan base by offering mini-sandboxes with problems that can be solved in a number of ways. Hitman is not a series about killing, or even stealth, but rather a series about creative problem solving.

Reactions: Deus Ex “Missing Link” DLC due in October

Square Enix says that it’s about a missing three day chunk in the main game, but I like to think that’s just code for “Adam Jensen goes to a Halloween party populated by prominent evolutionists and creationists and must use his comical ‘missing link’ costume to break the ice and ensure a good time is had by all.” The DLC’s ability to “rebuild Adam’s augmentation set” (aka: redistribute augmentation points) supports my costume theory. It’s unclear whether the missing link rocks the shades or not.
