Trailers: Get a look at The Old Republic’s “Flashpoints”
For all of you who won’t be pretending that The Old Republic is simply charging a subscription fee for how awesome its solo missions are, BioWare is implementing “flashpoints,” which are essentially zones that offer group-quests. As you might expect, these quests will be more difficult and require team-work. Dynamic group decision-making will also affect the experience for everyone involved. The Jedi rescue mission shown above is just one example of the many excellent adventures in front of you and your friends. Just be careful about trusting group members who frequently express great admiration of Lando Calrissian.

After months of unconfirmed speculation (from EA’s John Riccitiello, no less) that BioWare’s Star Wars: The Old Republic would be releasing in spring 2011, MCV is now reporting that “development sources” have informed them of a world-wide September release. However, the article offers no tangible evidence of this delay and as many commenters have pointed out, the facts surrounding the game that it does provide are inaccurate or misinformed. I don’t know how much credence I’d put into this story, but it’s not like a delay on such an ambitious title (BioWare is saying it’s bigger than every one of their previous games combined) would be out of the ordinary.

Well, the original post had some solid gameplay footage, but the video seems to not be working, so I’ve updated the post with this video interview instead. If you’d like to interpret what the original video contained based on my original comments (seen below), then by all means, exercise your imagination!

You know, it actually does look pretty cinematic and fun. I’m sure some people will be upset that it appears to be on-rails, but BioWare made a decision and seems to have executed that design choice well.

If you’re looking for a class-based MMO, then this is probably what you bargained for. If you still have illusions of feeling like a Jedi in The Old Republic, well then, maybe The Force Unleashed II is more up your alley.

BioWare Austin sure knows how to make BAD ASS trailers that in no way, shape, or form reflect actual gameplay. That’s two years in a row now. Still, there’s points off this time for a narrator that doesn’t sound like he should be in the Star Wars universe. Now how about some gameplay if this thing is actually coming out next spring?
Author: CodyTrailers: Listen to old information on The Old Republic
Not entirely sure why I’m posting this, considering it reveals absolutely nothing new. But I guess it’s good to remind everybody of it before I inevitably post more about it during E3. And as for that jerk saying they couldn’t tell all those stories in a single-player setting–yeah right, buddy. You just know you can make more money with an MMO.

I don’t mean to beat a dead horse, but they really should have just made a proper Knights of the Old Republic 3. But I’m even more worried that if they experience big time success with this MMO then they’ll start ruining all of their franchises. Hopefully I’m just being paranoid.

We'll have to get back to this later.
Well, it looks as if World of Warcraft‘s reign of MMO dominance will continue at least through Spring 2011. BioWare employee Sean Dahlberg recently posted in the BioWare forums that, “While we have not announced a specific date, we can confirm that we are targeting a spring 2011 release for Star Wars: The Old Republic.” Many gamers had hoped the highly-anticipated title would make store shelves by the end of this year, but that doesn’t appear to be the case. Still, you can always hope for a beta!
