Reactions: Fumito Ueda Leaves Sony

The creator of highly-anticipated and oft-delayed Playstation 3 exclusive The Last Guardian has left Sony, Eurogamer reports. He’ll continue to work on the game in a freelance capacity after which he’ll move on to “personal projects.” Eurogamer cites Ueda’s departure from Sony as a reason for the game being delayed from holiday 2011.

No kitty-rat-bird for you this Christmas...
*Sigh.* I suppose we should have seen it coming, but the cat that Team ICO was using for The Last Guardian‘s mo-cap ran away; it probably got sick of Fumito Ueda meticulously gluing chicken feet to its paws every session. Obviously, this is bad for everyone involved: the cat will surely have trouble finding a home looking the way it does, Ueda-san could blame himself and go into a deep depression, and the extra development time needed to find a suitable replacement kitty is going to push this title into 2012. At least the revered game director has the decency to apologize:

In most cases, I’d be inclined to agree with the man. But with The Last Guardian‘s cat-rat-bird monster, I’m not so sure he should be getting his hopes up for Nintendogs sales numbers. It’s okay, though; the critics will love your work, Mr. Ueda.

Well, not the actual Mecca, but my personal Mecca, Lambeau Field, home of the Green Bay Packers. I’ll be gone all weekend and hope to return full of brats, cheese, and the joy that comes with seeing the Bills lose. And yes, this trip totally coincides with Tokyo Game Show. I swear I don’t plan my vacations out to avoid covering trade shows! It just happened that way, and unfortunately, I won’t be able to cover all the breaking news coming this weekend. In fact, the good times have already begun, and I’ll provide according links below. But until Monday, maybe even Tuesday, you’re on your own, dear readers.

Here’s more of those lovely trailers, demos, and videos that I know you all love. This time around we’ve got the MAG stage demo, The Last Guardian (AKA Project Trico) trailer, and a PSP Go hands on demo from the show floor.
Cody already showed us some gameplay footage from MAG in one of his video round-ups, but here’s the stage demo that was shown off by Zipper Interactive at Sony’s Press conference.
