Reactions: Portal 2 discount and much, much more

This NFL draft is too damn exciting for me to think of witty Portal 2 lines.
Boy, am I glad I haven’t bought Portal 2 yet. $35 at Kmart (360 and PS3 versions) beginning May 1st. GameStop will reportedly be offering it for $40 on the consoles and $30 for the PC beginning April 30th. Did somebody portal themselves into Kmart and GameStop’s headquarters and forge some papers?

InsaneBear’s policy on announcements of announcements, Alternate Reality Games, and any other such nonsense is one of staunch disapproval, but I suppose we can make an exception for Valve’s latest Portal 2 ARG. Why you ask? Well, dear reader, just take a look at all the wonderful alternate box art that’s come of it.

According to Valve’s Chet Faliszek, “The mod tools have to stay on the PC side just because there’s a bunch of dependencies that require the Windows platform, but the content that comes out is agnostic, and so we will be seeing that on all the platforms. Depending on the platform you’re on I should say, will depend on how we’re delivering it.”

In what seems to be standard procedure these days, a highly anticipated title has been delayed. Originally scheduled for Holiday 2010, the sequel to award-winning First-Person Puzzler Portal had been delayed to February. It has now been pushed back another two months to April 20th, 2011.

In an unprecedented move, Valve is releasing downloadable content that will function the same in two different games: Left 4 Dead and its even more popular sequel. It doesn’t matter which game you get the DLC for because somebody is dying either way.

Certainly not much to go on, but it gives us an idea of what to expect. Frankly, I think this has the potential to be supremely awesome. I still remember trying to solve puzzles together as Sir Ryan and myself played the first Portal side by side and that was a lot of fun. I can only imagine it’s even better when both people can play and they have their own parts of the puzzle to solve.

To be completely honest, I haven’t been excited for this game at all. I just thought that the first game was so perfect that a sequel could only screw the formula up. Then I watched these videos. The increased depth and complexity of the puzzling has sold me. I can’t wait.
