Reactions: Microsoft’s “House Party 2012″ headlined by I Am Alive, Alan Wake

Before we move on to how out of touch Microsoft’s marketing people are (oh, there’s a trailer below that will blow your mind), let us first discuss the game featured in the above video–I Am Alive. The title’s development struggles have been well documented and there’s certainly reason for concern when we stop to consider that it shifted developers mid-development and transformed from a full-fledged retail game to a downloadable title. And that gameplay does look a little rough around the edges in the graphical department. But I can honestly say that Ubisoft Shanghai’s take on the post-apocalypse is one of my most anticipated games of the year. It’s just fundamentally different from nearly every other game on the market today, and in this humble writer’s hopes, has the potential to revolutionize video games’ take on the post-apocalypse in a very positive way. So dude: seriously, just buy it.

Reactions: Alan Wake’s American Nightmare set for Q1 2012

The middle of the first quarter of 2012,” specifically. And if the video below is any indication, then the core gameplay should be a lot more fun than its predecessor.

Trailers: So what’s this RAAM’s Shadow DLC all about?

It’s like Epic has a little man hidden inside my mind, listening for all my awesome ideas like A GUN THAT SHOOTS KRYLL. But it’s less of a gun and more of a summon creature spell that RAAM casts with his magics. Locusts have those, right? Well they must, because the only explanation for kryll in daylight is a powerful protection spell.

Trailers: Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary launch trailer

Just wanted to remind everybody that the remake of one of the greatest Shooters of all time is releasing next Tuesday. Is it just me, or does it seem like Microsoft has devoted like $100 total to this game’s marketing campaign?

Reactions: Gears 3 DLC news

Okay, that stuff looks pretty cool. But still, sort of looks like content that should have shipped with the game, right? Well, you can choose to buy the Horde Command Pack for $10 as of right now, or you can wait ’til November 24th and get it for free…well, most of it, anyways.

Reactions: “RAAM’s Shadow” campaign DLC announced for Gears 3

If you’re like me, and you feel like General RAAM was the best boss fight in the Gears of War series, then you’ll be glad to hear that he’s coming back in December 13th’s “RAAM’s Shadow” DLC pack.

Review: Gears of War 3

Score: Superb
Difficulty played on: Hardcore (3rd hardest of 4 settings)
Time to beat: About 10 hours
Platforms: Xbox 360
Loved the most: Horde Mode, Beast Mode, Versus Multiplayer, and 4-player Campaign Co-op make this game a blast with friends.
Hated the most: The campaign’s quality is uneven.

In 2001, Microsoft launched the game franchise that would go on to define the Xbox with Halo. 2006 saw the company using Gears of War in much the same way for the Xbox 360. Both games set the standard for their respective genres and fostered die-hard multiplayer communities. And that’s why, despite the radically different play styles of the two series, there are a lot of comparisons to be made. For all intents and purposes, Gears of War 3 is to the Gears franchise what Halo 3, or perhaps a more recent example in Halo: Reach, are to the Halo franchise. It’s a game with incredibly refined and varied multiplayer experiences that have evolved from a multiplayer experience that was already AAA. It’s bigger, better, and more bad ass. But behind all of the many additions, the core gameplay hasn’t changed at all. Pretty much, it’s exactly what most Gears fans want.

Reactions: Forza 4 demo shifts into gear October 3rd

Can we just take a moment and forget the demo or any of the game-modes or really anything in general that might prevent us from ogling at the cars? Those things look real. Like, “I don’t feel qualified to step into this precious work of art” real. I’m amazed that Turn 10 is pushing this much power out of the 360. Maybe the tracks will finally catch up with the cars next generation and Forza tournaments will replace NASCAR. One can hope…

Trailers: Gears 3 Dust to Dust

Why does the Gears of War series always have the best trailers? Probably because they got Dude Huge over there busting heads if the trailers are anything less than fantastic.

Trailers: Watch Gears 3′s opening cinematic

Thanks for catching us up, Anya. May I be so bold as to say that I’m rather surprised by the game opening with you, but that I like it? Perhaps you’ll finally develop into a real character and not just be that piece of eye-candy in the other chopper. And maybe we’ll finally get more than half a dozen vague lines of dialogue on Marcus’ father. Maybe just maybe Gears 3 will have a compelling story to go with all that sexy gameplay.
