Trailers: Spec-Ops: The Line: the Apocalypse Now of gaming?

Or perhaps the “Heart of Sandiness”? You’re right, that would probably take away from what this game is trying to accomplish. While the developers in the interview below are quick to note that The Line is merely inspired by Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness and not a direct interpretation of the classic, the comparisons are strikingly evident. But that’s a good thing.

Trailers: Greg Kasavin says good things about Spec Ops: The Line

I’m still far from sold on this title, but it’s nice to know that the developers are at least attempting to scribe an engaging moral story. But I need to see more gameplay first. The whole dynamic sand thing they have going on sounds like it could be cool, but all the videos I’ve seen pretty much amount to, “Oh, well, there’s sand covering this glass ceiling. The bad guys don’t know they’re walking on it. If you shoot the glass they’ll fall.” So I’m hesitantly optimistic.

Trailers: Interview with Spec Ops: The Line’s Greg Kasavin


Well, a moderately interesting game just got a whole lot more interesting for me, or anybody else who knows and loves the talented Mr. Kasavin. But all bias aside, the way they explained the morality in this game does sound very appealing to me. I’ll certainly be keeping tabs from now on.
